Voluntary Blood Donation is now a movement in India. In early days, Indian Blood Banks were dependent on commercial blood sellers. This was a serious threat to blood safety as well as a naked illustration of prevailing inequality. Students Health Home happens to be the pioneer in Bengal in organising blood donation camps on voluntary basis. Later in 1998 the buying of blood was legally banned in india.
For Students Health Home, voluntary blood donation is an essential component of social health as it upholds the moral duty to stand by an ailling individual without any prejudice or any benefit in return. The Students Health Home motivates students and youth for VBD and arranges workshops and seminars to impart basic knowledge of blood transfusion science, blood related disorders and recent developments in rules and regulations and also makes them aware of the challenges of organising blood donation camps on regular basis. At SHH we also develop and publish posters, pamphlets and study materials for trainee youths to propagate blood donation movement.
Besides theoretical practices, Students Health Home organizes numerous voluntary blood donation camps throughout the year with the help of its organisers and volunteers from different regional centers, in different parts of the state. Several clubs, NGOs, associations, political groups, social media groups, school alumni, college unions and mass organizations arrange voluntary blood donation camps with active support and help from Students Health Home. We organize Thalassemia carrier screening camps in schools and colleges for the students regularly. ABO Blood grouping camps for students are also organized on demand basis.
We encourage blood donation on any day at any time in Government blood banks as it caters to the need of the ailling people in the best way. Simultaneously, we place and fight for demands to fulfill the best interest of donors, organisers and receivers of Government blood banks aa well.
We appeal to everyone to join us in this noble venture.
