Mental Health

Like physical and social health, psychological health is an integral component of "health", as defined by WHO. But, it's a pity that the subject is grossly neglected in all levels during policy framing or execution of health programmes. The mental health professionals are limited in number, resource and infrastructure across the nation. The prevailing ignorance of the society about the psychological illness has made the challenge harder. The pandemic has increased the crisis both in magnitude and dimension.

Students Health Home has the capacity to cater to the need of the psychological health of the younger generation both in preventive and in curative way. In the last few years, the Home has already organised more than 100 workshops and sensitization programmes around the state for the students, teachers and parents to promote basic scientific understanding of mental health issues. In college and universities, several workshops, seminars and group counselling sessions are being arranged by SHH on a regular basis to promote basic Psycho education. The cases identified and diagnosed are medically intervened using available resources of the Home.

A seperate module is being prepared for the school teachers to train them regarding psychological health issues of students. In the last lock down period, the trained teachers went on a door to door drive to assess the physical and mental health condition of their beloved students objectively. This was popular as " Cholo Chhatrader Bari Cholo".

Moreover, In different regional clinics of the Home, a number of experienced and skillful psychological counsellors voluntarily serve for the ailling students. At Moulali, renowned psychiatrists and psychologists attend regular OPD clinics beside the chambers of the psychological counsellors. In the first phase of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Home even arranged online counselling and telemedicine service free of cost for the general population.
